Airports are our portal to worlds unknown. They are the enchanting connection that transports us to gateways beyond. From the sounds of the planes taking off to the hustle and bustle of passengers rushing to their terminals, airports are our key to global adventures. Although they are significant, they also come with their own unique set of challenges. Here are some helpful tips I've provided in navigating some of those sometimes tricky transitions.
Choose Your Seats Ahead of Time
Skyscanner.com is my go-to flight booking website. Ease your stress by picking your seats 24 hours before your flight and remove some of those anxious feelings. Tip: choose a window seat for some of the best views!
2. Tag Your Luggage in a Creative Way
Wrap a brightly colored or fun, patterned bow around your luggage handle to ensure you don't miss your bag at the claim inside the terminal. This will help distinguish yours apart from the sea of black suitcases on the revolving belt.
3. Check-In Online.
When you arrive at the airport, head to the airline kiosk, print your boarding pass, and check your bag with the airline attendant at the counter. Half of the process is already complete, thus ensuring the airline will never overbook your flight.
4. Head to the Security Gate Early
If you want an even speedier process, make your way over to security inside the terminal two hours before your scheduled departure time. You'll then be able to arrive at your gate, have a snack, or grab a coffee without feeling rushed.
5. Have Your Electronics Out Before You Get to the Conveyor Belt (And Shoes Off!)
It's no secret we're all in a hurry to get to our flight gate, so speeding up the security process is essential. Having your electronics out of your bag (laptop, cell phone, iPad, etc.) and shoes off as soon as you grab the bin helps you move through the line as quickly as possible and makes those hardworking TSA agents very happy!
6. Eat Light
When choosing a pre-flight meal, you may feel tempted to fill up with something hearty and heavy, such as fast food or fried options, but think again. The saltiness will leave you feeling thirsty and bloated, creating an unpleasant flight. Choose a lighter alternative such as crackers, a granola bar, fruit, or nuts before you board. These items are rich in nutrients that will give you the right energy boost for those long hours in the sky.
